For convenience of survey respondents survey data is very often collected on paper. Rating data, yes/no responses and free-form survey data responses are provided on paper. For effective client relationship survey data needs to be shared, analyzed and acted upon. Since large volume surveys yield many data points the information from surveys has to be transferred from survey paper to electronic so it can be analyzed quickly. Information which is machine typed in well laid out structured survey forms ( same information in same location) lends itself to optical character recognition (OCR) where data capture software can be utilized to capture the information from the incoming survey paper form.
